Spicy Witches’ Fingers

These savory cheese crackers are a fun snack or appetizer for Halloween or any spooky occasion.

  • 1 lb sharp Cheddar finely grated
  • 2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 8 tablespoons 1 stick butter, cut into pieces
  • ½ teaspoon sea salt
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 3 tablespoons ice water
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce such as Tabasco
  • 20 Whole blanched almonds

  1. Put the Cheddar, flour, butter, salt, smoked paprika, cayenne, and garlic powder in a food processor.
  2. Pulse until the mixture resembles sand.
  3. Add the ice water and pulse until the dough comes together. Form the dough into a ball, wrap in plastic and refrigerate for 1 hour.
  4. Preheat the oven to 375°
  5. Line a baking sheet with a silicone baking mat. Or parchment paper
  6. Using a sharp knife carefully split the almonds lengthwise to create fingernails.
  7. Shape into long finger-like cylinders. Place each cylinder onto the lined baking sheet.
  8. Push into one end a blanched almond half or sliced almond like a fingernail into each cylinder.
  9. Score the fingers to create wrinkles
  10. Combine the Worcestershire sauce and Tabasco in a little bowl or measuring cup
  11. Brush with the Tabasco mixture.
  12. Let the fingers chill for 30 minutes before baking.
  13. Bake for 20 - 25 minutes until the fingers are golden brown.
  14. Let cool for a few minutes before transferring to a rack to cool completely.
