Gochujang Glazed Salmon is one fantastic way to serve salmon. Here is a quick and easy broiled salmon recipe full of delicious flavors and a hint of Korea in every bite. I absolutely love gochujang (Korean Chili Paste). I have used it in several recipes here in this space. I even love to mix a tablespoon of it into mayo for an addictive dip for fries. The umami it brings to any dish is absolutely delicious and is a great way to add a different flavor to your cooking. I have made everything from spicy Korean Short Ribs in an Instant Pot to sourdough bread and a great Korean shallot Dip, just to name a few. (search Gochujang in the search window) This stuff is wonderfully versatile in many dishes.
I adore a good piece of salmon, and adding gochujang was a perfect combination. This glaze has just the right amount of heat. It builds a bit as you eat it, but it never overpowers. Garlic, ginger, the gochujang, and a hint of sweetness make this a tasty way to cook salmon or any firm fish. I bet it would be great with cod, too! I made this for my neighbors, and they thought even their kids would like it.
Putting together the glaze for Spicy Korean Salmon with Gochujang takes mere minutes. I found I could mix it as the fish baked for the initial 8 minutes. Make this dish for a fantastic quick dinner anytime. The glaze would also work fantastic on the grill, if you have a hankering to BBQ. Gochujang can be found in most grocery stores or here on Amazon. It comes in a big tub, but it lasts in the fridge for months, and I find I use it more than I thought I would. (I get a small commission at no cost to you from Amazon. If you use any link on this page, please consider helping fund my food journey.) You will find many uses for this taste of Korea, and it is a great addition to any kitchen.
Ok, that is all for this week. Try Gochujang Glazed salmon you won’t regret it, it’s incredible. I hope you are all staying safe and healthy out there in these wild times. Please think of others in your choices. We all need to if we look out for each other. It will make surviving this world’s troubles easier and less stressful. Until next time!
- 4 6 oz. boneless salmon fillets with skin or without
- vegetable oil for brushing
- sea salt to taste
- black pepper to taste
- For the gochujang glaze:
- 3 tbsp gochujang
- 2 tbsp mirin sweet cooking rice wine
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1 tbsp toasted sesame oil
- 2 cloves garlic minced or grated
- 1 tsp grated fresh ginger
- 1 tsp black pepper
- For serving:
- sesame seeds
- sliced green onions
-
Instructions
-
Preheat oven to 400°
-
Position a rack 4-5 inches from the broiler.
-
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy clean-up.
-
Put the salmon fillets on the baking sheet skin side down. Lightly brush with oil and season with salt and pepper.
-
Let bake for 8 minutes.
-
While the salmon is baking, combine all the ingredients for the gochujang glaze in a small bowl.
-
Remove the salmon from the oven.
-
Turn the oven to broil.
-
Brush the salmon fillets heavily with the glaze.
-
Broil for 5-8 minutes or until the desired doneness. The glaze should be bubbling and beginning to brown on the edges. You can check for doneness with a fork. It is better to err on the undercooked side, as the fish will continue to cook for a bit after you take it out of the oven.
-
Sprinkle with sesame seeds and green onions. Serve with white rice if desired.
