The Marvelous Lumière Cocktail

Get ready for a fantastic cocktail for your next summer party. The Lumière is one awesome cocktail.

The Lumière is definitely one of my favorite cocktails to serve once the warm weather starts to appear. It is surprisingly light and refreshing. Though it is deceptive, as it is definitely a stiff drink. It is easy to drink several Lumière s before you know what you have gotten yourself into! This is the kind of cocktail you can serve at a summer gathering when you want a citrusy cocktail full of flavor. If you want a drink that is different from the usual party cocktail, this is an excellent choice. The St Germain and the Green Chartreuse in the Lumière balance out the gin, making this cocktail very smooth and delicious. I have served it to friends who say they hate gin and have changed their minds they ended up walking around with grins on their faces sipping this fabulous green cocktail.

Developed by Brooklyn’s Nitehawk Cinema’s Beverage Director Jen Marshall. She wanted to invent a drink inspired by the Oscar-nominated film Hugo. The Lumière brothers are the inspiration for the films of Georges Méliès who is one of the best early silent filmmakers from France. Georges Méliès is a central figure in the movie. Yes, it is an obscure reference, but it makes a fun fact. If you haven’t seen Hugo you should definitely check it out, it is one of my favorite films. Just imagine sipping a nice fancy coupe filled with a Lumière as you watch an excellent flick.

Green Chartreuse is a liqueur that has been made by the Carthusian Monks in France since the 1700s. It is composed of 130 herbs, plants, and Flowers. The best way to describe Green Chartreuse is that is has a slight floral veggie taste unlike anything else you might have tasted. Green Chartreuse is also where we get the color chartreuse. It is awesome when mixed with many different cocktails. ST Germain is a sweet liqueur made from elderflowers picked from the French Alps. St Germain is relatively new to the cocktail scene. It has only been produced since 2007 and is based in the USA. It too is fantastic in many mixed drinks. ST Germain is even found flavoring of a certain Prince’s wedding cake in England. The Lumière is a great way to try both these flavors. Definitely, use the fresh lime juice for this drink, it will brighten up The Marvelous Lumière Cocktail to a beautiful glowing drink. It only takes about 1 lime per cocktail. Let me know in the comments below if you make one of these fabulous cocktails.
