Grapefruit Negroni a classic with a new twist

The Grapefruit Negroni

Grapefruit Negroni, a classic cocktail reborn with a fresh twist.

The Grapefruit Negroni

As many of you know, I discovered my adoration of this classic cocktail relatively recently. Since this discovery, I’ve posted both the classic version and the white version. Well, now I want to branch out and try a new twist on this classic.

I absolutely love grapefruit anything. There is something about this large citrus fruit that I can’t get enough of. I have loved grapefruit for as long as I can remember. It is bitter and yet sweet with a bright flavor that is different from your typical orange citrus that I sometimes find cloying. Grapefruit juice is full of great health benefits like potassium and vitamin C. It is even supposed to help with lowering blood pressure. Some people even think it is excellent for helping to lose weight. Though, in a cocktail, that is definitely debatable! Nonetheless, a Grapefruit Negroni is a great way to enjoy my favorite juice.

Adding grapefruit to a negroni is a no-brainer. This bitter citrusy cocktail is right in the same flavor profile as a negroni, and I think it may even brighten it up a bit. A negroni is usually a potent cocktail and substituting some of the Campari for the juice actually lowers the “punch” just a bit in a good way. I have said to double strain this cocktail, and by that, I mean to use a little strainer like this one from Amazon as well as the strainer from the shaker. It helps to remove any ice shards from any cocktail and will elevate your cocktail game. I try to always double strain any of my shaken cocktails.

I chose my favorite gin for this cocktail, Spring44. I just adore their gin, and I find it is the perfect one for this cocktail because the citrus notes come through in a perfectly balanced way. Their gin is becoming more available across the country as their popularity only grows. You can find where you might get a bottle on their website. Most of their gins and spirits are also organic, and I just adore them. If you don’t have a cocktail shaker, there is a great one on Amazon (I get a teeny tiny commission if you use any link on this page. Please consider helping fund my blog)

It seems like there is some optimism in the air. Finally, progress is being made, although slowly, and we have a bit of reason to be excited for the world’s future. And these times are not just any one country’s problems. As always, please think of others in what you choose to do. Hopefully, bring some joy to those you encounter. We all need a smile now and then. That’s all for this week!
