Ingredients

Blackberry syrup (for a pitcher, double this amount)

  • 6 oz fresh blackberries
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ½ cup water

The Blackberry Margarita

  • 3 oz 2 shots silver tequila
  • 1 ½ oz 1 shot Blackberry syrup, store-bought or homemade
  • 1 ½ oz 1 shot orange liqueur, triple sec or Cointreau
  • 1 ½ oz fresh lime juice

For a pitcher of Margaritas (Makes 8)

  • 2 cups 16 oz silver tequila
  • 1 cup blackberry syrup store-bought or homemade
  • 1 cup 8 oz orange liqueur, triple sec or Cointreau
  • 1 cup fresh lime juice

Instructions

For the syrup (about ½ cup syrup)

  1. Combine the blackberries, sugar, and water in a small saucepan.
  2. Bring the mixture to a boil, reduce to a simmer and let cook for 5-10 minutes until the fruit has thoroughly cooked.
  3. Press the mixture through a fine mesh strainer and cool.
  4. The syrup can be stored in the fridge for up to 6 weeks.

For the margaritas

  1. Fill a cocktail pitcher with ice for the individual cocktail or a large pitcher if making the full recipe.
  2. Combine tequila, blackberry syrup, orange liqueur, and lime juice in a cocktail pitcher or more giant pitcher for a full pitcher amount.
  3. Stir until very cold.
  4. And pour it into a glass filled with more ice. I like a single old-fashioned glass for this cocktail.
  5. Garnish with fresh blackberries and lime slices.

Recipe Notes

For a fun decorative touch, you can salt or sugar the rims of the glasses by running a lime wedge around the edge of each glass and dipping the wet rim into a plate filled with large salt crystals or sugar.
